Deaf/Hearing Loss

Summary
The Louise Tumarkin Zazove Foundation was developed in 2003 to provide college scholarships to students with hearing loss to help them have an equal chance in our hearing society. Applicants must have a 50 dB hearing loss in each ear or have a cochlear implant, must be a citizen of the United States or have a green card, and must be planning to attend a college or university in the United States as an undergraduate in the fall of the year of application.

Summary
The Keith Sargent Scholarship is open to any student with a mobility, visual, or hearing disability who has completed 24 transfer credits or one academic year at Iowa State University and who has a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

The scholarship amount varies and may be renewed for an additional two years as long as a GPA of 2.75 or above is maintained. The award is administered through the Student Disability Resources Office.

Summary
Five scholarship winners will receive two state-of-the-art hearing aids which best fit their hearing loss, along with a $2,000 Scholarship to the student’s college or vocational school of choice. The scholarship is open nationally to high school seniors who have a hearing loss, which requires the use of hearing aid(s) in their daily life.

Summary

Several scholarships at the graduate and undergraduate level for students with moderate-to-profound hearing loss enrolled in full-time, or applied to, a mainstream four-year college or university. Listening and spoken language must be the applicant’s primary mode of communication.

Hearing loss must have been diagnosed before the applicant’s fourth birthday (pre-lingual hearing loss), and hearing loss must be bilateral and in the moderately severe to profound range.

Summary
Up to three awards of up to $5,000 each may be awarded each year to full-time graduate students with a pre-lingual bilateral hearing loss in the moderately-severe to profound range and who use listening and spoken language as their primary method of communication. Applicants must be attending full-time to an accredited mainstream law school or graduate school working towards a masters or doctoral degree in public policy or public administration.

Previous recipients may re-apply, provided that they are still in school and a minimum of nine credit hours was completed in the previous year of study.

Summary
The Graeme Clark Scholarship is an award open to Cochlear Nucleus Implant recipients and the Anders Tjellström Scholarship is open to Cochlear Baha and Osia recipients. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or Canada.

Available to graduated high school seniors and undergraduate or graduate students that have applied to or will be enrolled in an accredited technical school, college, or university. Scholarship value is $2,000 per year for up to four years assuming scholarship recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA or better.

The goal of the Hamilton Relay Scholarship is to support individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have difficulty speaking in their post-secondary education. The $500 Hamilton Relay Scholarship is extended to a qualifying student living within a state where Hamilton Relay is the contracted telecommunications relay service provider.
